Buhl Science Complex

Buhl is a 10,000 square-foot laboratory building which features a three-story glass atrium along with:

  • specialized research spaces

  • laboratories and classrooms

  • a climate-controlled instrument laboratory

  • environmental chambers

  • extensive computing facilities

  • tissue culture and microscopy equipment

  • and other modern instruments.

    Biochemistry @ Chatham

    Chatham’s biochemistry major is designed for students who are planning graduate work in biochemistry or molecular biology, who wish to seek jobs in biotechnology, or who are applying to medical, dental, or veterinary schools.

    Biology @ Chatham

    Chatham offers tracks tailored to different fields of interest. The cell and molecular biology concentration is appropriate for a career in research or medicine. The human biology concentration includes all of the prerequisite courses for our Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, and is well suited to careers in a variety of health professions.

    At Chatham, you will become familiar with many advanced pieces of equipment for chemical analysis, learning how to use computers to analyze chemical data and to create models of drug interaction. Beyond the lab, you will develop written and oral communication skills, critical thinking, and information literacy.

    Alma mater of environmental pioneer Rachel Carson ’29, Chatham University is on the forefront of environmental studies. The environmental science major provides students with an interdisciplinary, scientific perspective to help them develop an evidence-based approach to environmental challenges.

Student Profile: Avery Belenos ‘21

Avery is involved with all things science at Chatham. They are a supplemental instructor for the General Chemistry I course, a tutor for Cell & Molecular Biology and Calculus, and a research assistant to senior chemist Dr. Joseph MacNeil. Additionally, they work as the chemical inventory and safety technician for Buhl Hall and help maintain safety with chemicals at Chatham.
